God of War
« on: July 19, 2010, 02:21:25 PM »
I just started playing God of War III yesterday (I'd been distracted with War for Cybertron, Final Fantasy XIII and other stuff) and my god...what a gorgeous game.

The boss fight against Poseidon was arguably the most epic I've ever taken part in on a video game. And that was just the first boss. Lord, I love this series....

Might have to check it out.

Have you tried Demon's Souls? It's... hardcore. It's one of the most annoying, troublesome, always dying and never forgiving kind of games I've played. If you die, in a level, you lose every orb you captured and you are sent to the beginning of the level with all bosses and enemies respawned, unless you reach a boss checkpoint (at which point you respawn, as above, save facing the newly healed and respawned boss all over again).

And on top of that, when you die, you become a ghost and lose half your health for the next try!

It's crazy... but man, when you actually succeed you have never felt the pure joy like that game has - it's like you climbed Everest twice in one day.

Kind of sadistic, really, but I'm considering buying a cheap copy.

You should rent it, Sid. See how long it takes before you pull out your hair, hehe. But... somehow... when you do actually pass a level, it's so rewarding (you gain the 'I will NOT LET YOU BEAT ME!' mentality).

Hmm...Devil's Soul. Maybe I'll give it a rent. Sounds like an interesting concept, though games that frustrate me tend to have a short shel-life  ;)

I prefer amazing visuals and story, and some nice healthy violence thrown in for kicks.

And you must play the God of War series, Pauly. Must, must, must. They have all three for the PS3, and renting is easy. Though, God of War III is a visual masterpiece thus far. Can't wait to play some more later ;)

I've played 1 and 2, so 3 is all I have left. Though... I wasn't overly impressed with 2, so I think that's the reason I've been holding off on GoW 3, I think.

I'll give it a whirl, nonetheless. But right now, I'm more interested in the new Sniper: Ghost Warrior game coming out today - I suspect it will be a low budget let-down, but a small part of me hopes it will be fun enough to look beyond that.

God of War 3 was pretty cool. I thought it was a decent enough ending to the trilogy, but could have easily gone in a different direction. I tried to do that 1000 hit combo at the end, but gave up after about 15 minutes of tapping the O button...

Especially since I wasn't sure if that's even how you do it.

Sniper: Ghost Warrior did suck, and I promptly returned the game that same day.

Anyways, did you mention a God of War themed RP? It might be interesting. I quite liked the darker versions of the typical greek mythos they used, and given how the game looks, the imagery would be fantastic. Let me know if you plan to do anything with it, and I'll pick up a character.

I think you have to use that green chain thing. That's how I started racking up the big hit combos, but I got bored after a bit.

I was thinking of how it would be cool to have a God of War rpg, but it would be tough, since it relies on people to either have a Playstation 2 or 3 and or/have a working knowledge of Greek mythology.

We could base the imagery/general mood theme from God of War, but can remain somewhat true to established Greek methology. Wiki can serve as the basis for the Greek info, if needed, since I doubt it will matter much beyond the name of the entity and to whom he/she is related to and the relationship they share (ie: hating one another, which is generally what all have in common).

It could work, I'd say. Don't know about the sticking power, however.

On the other hand, a decent Star Wars RP could also be fun... or an X-Men RP. Maybe some of those animated shows for a change? Clone Wars or Evolution?
