IMPORTANT: Upgrade Time

Hi all,

This week I decided to undertake a project to upgrade the board from the current 1.1.11 line to 2.0. The line we are currently using will only have security features upgraded from this point on. No new goodies in terms of tools or things the board can do. I think that this will eventually hurt us in the long run which is why I will be upgrading. I have done reading and research and it seems that I can do this upgrade without losing the most important things, user accounts and posts. During the rest of the week I will be doing the necessary back ups to make sure we are covered just in case then take some time Sunday to do the actual upgrade. I'll be temporarily shutting down the board to prevent people from posting as I am upgrading and potentially having those posts done. I will make a post on Sunday to let everyone know exactly when this will be done.

Thanks for the heads up, Maz.  Updates\upgrades are needed and warnings are good.  Let us just hope nothing falls apart after the upgrade.

Damn it Sumo don't jinx it! LOL! 

Ok, the backups are in place and I am starting the upgrade process. Going to be shutting off everyone's access to the boards so no one can post while I do this. I'll post here again once its done.

Ok, upgrade is done. Now lets review the good and the bad of it.

Good:
     - Bunch of new features for me to play with. I need to spend time with it and see what we can do now. If anyone would like to see new features on the board let me know as we now have access to new stuff.
     - The data is saved! So glad I did not need to use that backup I did of the entire board, at least for now. Everything went smoothly and with no problems.

Bad:
     - Some of the old themes are just not working since they were made for the old version. We will need to make new ones or figure out a way to mod the old ones. In terms of functioning the board still works though. I just need to sit down with my new tools and see what I can do to fix it visually speaking. Please be patient while we figure this out.

Agreed. All in all, a very painless upgrade.

It is better to have back ups and not need them then to have no back up and have a complete crash.  I'll admit it took me a second to get reaquainted with the board when I logged on Monday or Tuesday.  As for the new look, it works well for me.  Would you mind telling us what some of the new toys are in case we do want to use them?
