STORY:
The movie begins a large blimp-like ship heading to the moon base of the Grendizer baddies. The villain (whose name I lack at the moment, picture below) arrives damaging the base in a show of his power and taunts the others how he will crush Grendizer, something they could not do. He attacks the Earth and Duke is called to save the day as usual. However he went out on a date, taking off his watch. Koji is sent out to get him but decides to handle things on his own so that they can enjoy some time together. Koji manages to destroy some saucers but is taken prisoner by a Saucer Mech.
After he is taken prisoner Koji is forced into a machine that forces him to answer any questions given to him. Under such interrogation he tells of two legendary robots, Mazinger Z and Great Mazinger who fought to save the Earth. The villain comes up with the plan that with Great Mazinger he could defeat Grendizer so he sets off to the Peace Museaum to collect the robot. Duke finally gets a hold of his watch-communicator and is told what happened and immediately rushes off in Grendizer to save Koji.
By the time Grenzier arrives the villains have taken possetion of Great Mazinger and he must face him and two Saucer Mechs in battle. Meanwhile Koji wakes up and is taunted showing him what happened. He breaks free of his bonds and makes it to the communications room where he can get a message off to Duke. Duke asks if Great Mazinger has any weaknesses and Koji tells him that if he can hit Great Mazinger right where the wings fold in he will paralyze him for a short time (it can be assumed that would not work against a pilot with experience like Tetsuya but it would against someone like the villain who did not have the experience to know how to fix it.) Duke is able to hit that point with the Double Boomerang and Great is shut down. The villain gets out and sounds for a retreat.
Koji is finally free of the ship, sneaking out as the others try to escape. Wanting payback for what they did to him he goes to get Great Mazinger while Duke attacks the mothership. He tells Koji to run away but Koji will have not of that nonsense and promptly destroys the remaining enemy robot before joining Grendizer's attack on the ship. Finally the last enemy is released, three globes surrounded by an energy field. Great Mazinger's Breast of Burn and Grendizer's Angelic Scope are able to disrupt the field and the globes charge at Grendizer who is standing on top of the mothership. Koji swoops in and takes Grendizer away leaving the globes to crash into the ship which promptly explosed. Both robots stand side by side looking at the sunset in triumph. The End.
OPINION:
Of all the team ups this is my least favorite. The reason for this is that it feels like a Grendizer episode with Great Mazinger in it than a actual crossover between the two series. There was no Tetsuya, June, or any other of the Great Mazinger regulars. Some of the ideas in it are kind of silly too. I mean, who ever thought of putting the two most powerful weapons created on Earth in a museaum, fully powered up and with the cockpit units, being protected only by glass? It is very cool to finally get to see Koji get fed up with things and take a Mazinger and kick butt though.
